Wemba-koy Okonda
Wemba-koy Okonda fled the first Congolese war in 1997. In 2002, he was granted asylum in the U.S. In December 2008, he earned a BA in Computing and Software Systems. He expects to earn an MA in Health Service Management from Argosy University Online this June. In December 2009, Wemba-Koy founded OKONGO (www.okongo.org) to teach newly resettled Congolese refugees and asylees English and technical skills. Okonda also aims to serve the people of Congo, promoting health through increased public awareness and food self-sufficiency through agriculture, condemning sexual atrocities against women and young girls; and rallying the support of people around the world to help stop the ongoing military escalation in eastern DR Congo.
