Bent-Jorgen Perlmutt

Bent-Jorgen Perlmutt directed, produced, and edited the documentary “Lumo” (P.O.V., 2007), which won a 2007 Student Academy Award and the President’s Award at the 2007 Full Frame Film Festival. He served as the co-producer and additional editor of “Control Room,” as well as the associate editor of “Valentino: The Last Emperor.” He wrote, directed, produced, and edited “Les Vulnerables,” the closing night short of the 2007 New York Film Festival and an official selection of the 2008 Berlinale. The film also won a grand jury prize at the 2008 AFI Dallas Film Festival and the “Focus Features Best Director” award at the 2008 Columbia University Film Festival. BJ has directed, produced, and edited short films all over the world for organizations including UNICEF, UNIFEM, the New York Academy of Medicine, Massify, HEAL Africa (eastern DR Congo) and ZENU NETWORK (Cameroon). He has taught filmmaking courses at Columbia University, the MAISHA Film Lab (Kenya), and WITNESS (Northern Uganda). He is a member of the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures and is one of Filmmaker Magazine’s 2008 “25 New Faces of Indie Film.” BJ is a recipient of a 2009 Sundance / Sloan Commissioning Grant for which he is currently developing a film set in Cuba. He holds a BA in English Literature from Brown University and an MFA in Film Directing from Columbia University.
