Children of War

Directed by Brian Single
The war in northern Uganda lasted for two decades (1986-2006), claimed more than one million lives, and forced an estimated 35,000 boys and girls to serve as soldiers, domestic servants, and sex slaves. Many of these children were forced to commit unspeakably brutal acts and injured by other children. Filmed inside in the war-torn region of northern Uganda over a period of three years, Bryan Single’s award-winning documentary, “Children of War,” follows three former child soldiers as they undergo the formidable process of trauma therapy and emotional healing. Having been abducted from their homes and schools and forced to become fighters for the Lord’s Resistance Army – a quasi-religious militia led by self-proclaimed prophet and international war criminal Joseph Kony – the children struggle to face and break through years of traumatizing abuse, forced participation in war crimes, and religious indoctrination under the guidance of a dedicated team of trauma counselors. “Children of War” serves as a timely and powerful catalyst for the advancement of post-war rehabilitation, peace-building, and international criminal law.
